About Evelyn Dewar

I am currently working on a show that will take place at the Artroom Topsham in October 09. Catalogues will be available shortly before the show.

Evelyn, born in Scotland, attended the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where she gained an honours degree in Fine Art, further study secured a masters degree and since 2005 has lectured within the Visual Arts Faculty of Exeter College and on the Environmental Arts and Crafts Foundation Degree at Bicton College. “From the closet to the cosmos” is Evelyn's current and first solo exhibition since the birth of her daughter Tallulah three years ago. The works on show are a response to the Fairlynch museum's impressive costume and jewellery collection. "The paintings bring about a fantasy of a time before- resurrected into a contemporary context through the interpretation of paint, colour and Evelyn’s lived experiences in Budleigh Salterton. Evelyn takes this old museum collection out of the closet and through her work, sets it free, resurrecting the beauty within the pieces and releasing it to the universe.
